Take Part in a Turtle Release

August 09, 2023

There’s something about being on vacation that makes you more willing to try new and exciting experiences. In Los Cabos, you’ll find plenty of options, from heart-pounding adventures to laid-back time out on the sand, soaking up the sun’s rays. But, if you’re interested in something truly unique, why not take part in a Turtle Release?

It’s the chance to have some fun while doing something good for the environment, and more importantly, helping to save a species. Taking part in a Turtle Release is one of the region’s most heart-warming experiences. When you select a date and time for this wildlife conservation program, you actually get to adopt a baby turtle, then you travel along to help release it out into the ocean.

Not only are participants learning about turtles and their natural habitat along the way, but they’re also able to play a role in helping preserve turtles for the future. You get a front row seat to experience the delight as baby turtles first check out their new home in the ocean, and you also get the satisfaction of knowing you played an important part in the process.

The Turtle Release program charges a set price for adults, and it’s even more affordable for kids between the ages of three to 12 years old. Keep in mind, your child does need to be at least three to participate in the Turtle Release. You also need to be able to walk about 100 meters on the beach to take part in the program.

The cost includes round-trip transportation, along with an adoption certificate, a certified guide, and bottled water. Snacks and gratuities are not included in the upfront cost, so be sure to plan accordingly. There also aren’t any restrooms once you get to the location of the Turtle Release.

The entire tour takes about two hours plus transfers, so plan for about three hours total. There are Turtle Release times daily during season, which typically runs from August to November, so if you’re in Los Cabos during this time, it’s a great program to be part of. Tour organizers recommend you wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can get wet, because there’s a good chance your feet will get wet before this tour is over.
